BACK FROM WAR



short and bloody memories I can't forget,

they haunt my mind and dreams,



full of blood and violenct screams,

friends crying out as they died,



to protect a country a way of life,

we were sent to kill our enemies,



but weren't they sent to kill us too,

to defend their home life as well,



after years the memories still haunt me,

at night visions and nightmares come,



am I insane or is it all in my head,

visions of blood and people dead,



when it rains I remember the jungles,

looking behind every leaf and bush,



watching a movie and mind goes back to the time,

when I held the gun and took his life,



at night I scream seeing my friend grasping for my hand,

a friend I shot so he wouldn't live with the pain,



to serve my country and to protect my family,

ahh what a noble idea and dream,



they protested and I live with these nightmares,

the rest of my days never knowing peace again.



Many soldiers have died but many live with these thoughts and they suffer as we think they're just crazy. Perhaps if we took time to think of what they've seen and done so we could be safe, we may have a little more respect for them. Think about this poem when you condemn and call our military blood thirsty fools. At one time they were like you are and they sacrificed their sanity so civilians can call them fools.
